The Lodge Road Building
This old facade sits on Lodge Road, just off the old Anarkali Bazaar in Lahore. A neighbouring building carries a small plaque dated 13 August 1947, one day before Partition, and the whole stretch feels suspended around that moment in time.
This was one of my earliest street photographs, made with a small sensor camera and an empty sky, I once wished I could replace with something more dramatic. Since then I have gone back with newer cameras, better lenses and better light, but I have never managed to make a version that feels stronger than this simple scene of the barber, the passerby and the rickshaw. So this is the one I am offering as a print, with its small imperfections left as they are.
